The trade liberalization and economic growth in Latin America in the 1990s, brought the expectation that the income distribution in the region would improve. However, it did not. Some observers argued that the emergence of China, which has a strong comparative advantage in unskilled-labor-intensive products, is the reason of this. This paper shows that, with exception of Mexico, the deterioration of the income distribution cannot be attributed to China.
