Rituals performed by the Kulung reveal a complex and sometimes contradictory relationship to territory. This is notably the case of the entities to which these rituals are addressed : ancestors, forest powers or the ambivalent and mediating figure of the Nagi. Tension between two forms of space-territory occupation legitimacy is revealed. One is founded upon the logic of confrontation/alliance and places individuals and territorial conquest at the forefront. The other is founded on the logic of filiation and places the group as a collective, land inheritance and even autochthony at the forefront. This tension can be explained by concrete stakes which accompany these representations, in this case : the political and land control relation both within the group and with neighbouring communities.
