Remittances, funds transferred from migrants to their home country, are a veryimportant source of income for households and smallbusinesses in mosttransition countries. The paper documents the recent downturn in migrant’sremittances to selected transition countries due tothe recent global economiccrisis. The research concentrates on the Eastern Partnership countries:Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova andUkraine representingimportant sources of migrants. The paper shows howthe global economicdownturn affected remittance flows sent to the selected set of countries. Inparticular, the paper questions whether migration,thereby remittances, workas a transmission mechanism or important regional or global economic.
