Mongolia’s real gross domestic product (GDP) growth is projected to recover to 5.2 percent in 2023, fueled by a rapid rebound in mining production and robust growth in services. Despite the recovery, poverty is projected to only reach pre-pandemic levels by end-2023 (6.3 percent rate under the lower middle-income class poverty line). Significant risks and challenges lie ahead including high inflation rates (limiting progress in poverty reduction), persistent high debt, increasing fiscal risks, and large external sector imbalances.
