By the time this letter is published, India will have elected new members or the same members to Parliament for the 18th time in the last 77 years of its independence. Therefore, it is an opportune time to reflect on the state of Indian democracy in the last five years. For the past five years, the state of Indian democracy has been a topic of intense scrutiny, debate, and reflection. As the world’s largest democracy, India has often been lauded for its vibrant electoral process, diverse political landscape, and its commitment to democratic principles. However, recent years have also witnessed a series of challenges that have raised questions about the health and vitality of Indian democracy.
