Since the collapse of Soviet hegemonic regime, the foreign policy of Russia has been seeking for its new path and direction. Recently, due to the lack of the practical programs for economic reform in Yeltsin's era, the Russian foreign policy has been replaced by Eurasian prospect. The controversy surrounding the Russia's foreign policy revolved around the definition of national interests. Especially, Russia's Eurasianists criticised so-called Atlantisists for their impractical hope for the unrealized support from the West, and regretted the loss of the Russia's international prestige and NATO's advancement to Eastern Europe. Eurasianists insisted that Russia's future would be better off with her link with Asia-Pacific countries- United States, China, Japan and North and South Korea. Russia's new foreign policy in Northeast Asia has its foundation on the theories of Eurasianism. In her new foreign policy, Russia has achieved steady and substantial progress in her rerationship with the countries in the region. And these Russia's foreign policies are based upon 'the balance of power'. In this view, Russia has agreed upon the strategic companionship agreement with China. She has improved her relationship with Japan toward the final settlement of the dispute on the Northern Islands. She has expanded her cooperation with the two Koreas.
