Bolivia's four provinces of the eastern region, so-called Media Luna(half moon), has different ethnic, socio-political and economic characteristics from other provinces of the country. The 'autonomy' conflict between western indigenous concentrated region and Media Luna provinces has a long history since the last 20 century. Nevertheless, the autonomy conflict has escalated it's intensity since the political economy reforms implemented by Morales government. This government has intended to resolve the income inequality problem among people by changing the regime of income distribution of Hydrocarbon sector, which is the most important natural resources of the nation. Also the government try to change the rural property problem by land reform. These reforms are possibly undermining the economic interests of the country's major resource-rich area of Media Luna. So the autonomy conflict has been developed in a unpredicted manner recently. In spite of the enactment of new constitution of the nation, the autonomy conflict still remains alive due to the conflicting interests of both sides.
